FAQ

Everything you might be wondering.

Do I need yoga experience to start?

No experience is needed. Many students come to The Teal Yogi for their very first yoga class. Our teachers offer options for every body and every experience level, and you are always encouraged to move at your own pace. Simply showing up is enough.

Which class should I start with?

If you are new to yoga, start with Rise & Restore or Restore & Renew. They move at a slower pace and focus on gentle movement, relaxation and nervous system support, which makes them ideal for beginners or anyone returning to movement after time away.

I feel nervous. What happens at my first class?

That is completely normal, and many students feel the same way before their first visit. You will be welcomed into a calm, supportive room where your teacher guides you step by step. Classes begin slowly so you have time to settle in, and you are always free to rest, modify or simply observe. There is nothing you need to prove here.

Is this like therapy or a support group?

No. Our classes are trauma-sensitive, but sharing personal experiences is never expected or required. You are welcome to practice quietly and privately. The focus is on movement, breath and a safe space where you can reconnect with your body at your own comfort level. Classes are not a substitute for therapy, though many students find them a helpful companion to it.

What should I bring and wear?

Bring a yoga mat, a water bottle and an open mind. We provide bolsters, blankets, straps and blocks. Wear comfortable, breathable clothes you can move in, and bring a layer, since many classes end with relaxation or meditation.

When should I arrive?

For your first class, plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early so you can get settled and checked in. Doors are locked once class begins, which keeps the room calm for everyone inside.

What is trauma-sensitive yoga?

Trauma-sensitive yoga focuses on how poses feel rather than how they look. You are encouraged to move at your own pace, notice your body's sensations and reconnect in a supportive environment. Our teachers never adjust you hands-on, and you always have options to move, rest or modify.

Do you offer accessibility accommodations?

Our classes ask you to get down to and up from the floor safely, so they suit people who can move comfortably on a mat. Props and modifications support a range of abilities, and teachers can guide you through safer transitions. If floor-based classes are not a fit, ask us about a private 1:1 session adapted to your needs.

Are classes safe during pregnancy?

Yes. We offer prenatal yoga and modifications for every stage of pregnancy. Always check with your healthcare provider first.

Can I come if I have a chronic condition?

Our trauma-sensitive approach and modifications can support students with chronic conditions, but please get cleared by your doctor first. Let your teacher know about any needs or limitations so they can help you practice safely.

Do you offer online classes?

Yes. Members have a library of on-demand classes to practice at home.

Do you run workshops or events?

Yes. We host regular workshops, sound meditations, mini retreats and full-day events through the year, usually on weekend afternoons and evenings.
